Hunter 240

E-mail questions and comments to me, Robert V. Mitchell (Rob) at: TrvmitchT@TvcnT.com (remove the T's first)

I bought the Hunter 240 in March of 2001. I had been sailing for about ten years on various boats and decided I could afford a cruising trailersailor of my own. I had experience on MacGregor 26's (pre-26x), Hunter 23 and 235, Montgomery 15, Capri 22, Precision 18, Merit 22, Ranger 20 and San Juan 21. I picked the Hunter because of it's light air capabilities, roomy cabin, open transom, large cockpit and relatively low maintenance. Besides the gear that comes standard, I bought the stern seats, bimini, pop-top enclosure, cockpit cushions, bow roller and 8hp Honda. Since then I've added a second anchor, VHF radio, dock lines, fenders and several other things that improve safety, help organize the cockpit and make maintenance easier.

Here are some pictures of Prairie Penguin:

Christening "Prairie Penguin" at Glendo Reservoir on May 5, 2001. It was cold and overcast, but I was in a big hurry to get the boat into the water. Dwane Moore is reading the christening ceremony while I splash the champagne on the boat for Neptune.

Dwane, aka Tiny, is taking care of the boat while I back it into the water.

The boat is in the water for the first time. The sit-on-top kayak belongs to my girlfriend, Linda. It makes a wonderful tender for Prairie Penguin, especially because of the open transom.

In the spring of 2002, Tiny and I sailed at Glendo again. We've sailed together many times on his boat and I like to repay him by sailing with him on my boat.

This is one of the coves at Keyhole Reservoir. It's sheltered and has a sandy beach. It's a wonderful place to anchor for the night or have a picnic during the day.
